
Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa
On the last Thursday of each month The Worldpriest Global Apostolate is hosting a virtual Rosary Thursday.
In 2002 Pope John Paul II invited Catholics to pray the Mysteries of Light on Thursdays. These mysteries focus on the public life of Jesus .
Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa was born on 25 October 1958 in Ibonde, Kabarole District, Uganda – the Land of the Martyrs. Early education was at Butebe Primary School, St. Mary’s Seminary and Teso College, Aloet. He then studied at Katigondo National Seminary, Ggaba National Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 1985, at Virika, Fort Portal.
In 1992, before acquiring a master’s degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame, USA, Bishop Robert served as a teacher and chaplain at St. Leo’s College, Kyegobe and Ibaale Secondary School. He later served as curate at St. Jude Parish, Fort Wayne-USA and studied for a doctorate in formative spirituality from the University of Duquesne, USA.
In Uganda, he then served as parish priest at Bukwali Parish in Fort Portal Diocese for two years. He was also spiritual director of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association (as he is a life member) and in charge of spiritual ongoing formation of the clergy up to 2003. He was appointed then as parish priest at Virika Cathedral Parish he also served as a member of the board of governors of Virika Hospital and as well as a member of the Diocesan Board of Consultors.
In 2003 he was ordained and consecrated as Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, with Bishops Paul Kalanda and Deogratius Byabazaire serving as co-consecrators.
His responsibilities have included being chairman of the board of trustees Fort Portal Diocese to date and chairman Board of Governors of St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, chairman of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, vice chairman of the Pastoral/Liturgical Commission for the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) and served as chairman of Personnel Boar.
He was a member of the Council for Uganda Martyrs’ University-Nkozi and chairman of the Appointment Committee for UEC. He also served as chairman of the HIV/AIDS Commission for UEC up to 2014. He has served for nine years as secretary for the Assembly of HOFOKAM (a microfinance institution serving the rural poor in Western Uganda) and is currently its chairman.
Bishop Robert is a member of the Governing Council of Mountains of the Moon University, Chairman of the Health Commission for UEC members of the UEC Seminary Commission and vice chairman of the UEC.
He has a special interest in the formation of seminarians, aimed toward the goal of priestly ordination. He heads up a diocese of 140 priests and constantly calling for their spiritual renewal. His greatest joy is to ordain new priests and to see them take on their pastoral assignments of serving God’s people in rural and urban parishes.
Although COVID-19 has restricted pastoral work, diocesan duties continue, using online media.. Nevertheless, the Diocese does what is possible especially, through the different media platforms (Radios, Zoom, WhatsApp, Facebook, among others) to proclaim God’s Word.

This prayer time for Rosary Thursday will take the form of a virtual Rosary at 6 p.m. local Rome time, being prayed for the sanctification of priests and the intentions of Pope Francis. Everyone around the world – regardless of their location – will be very welcome to join in this important time of prayer However; all participants will need to register by simply clicking on the link below.
This virtual Rosary Thursday will make use of Zoom technology. It will open at 17.40 hours, the prayers begin at 18.00 hours, concluding at 18.30 hours.
