Father Michael Ruddy ss.cc.
Fr Michael Ruddy ss.cc. is a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The Order was founded during the French Revolution, by a Diocesan Priest: Fr Coudrin, who at the time was in hiding, as he refused to take, the ‘the Oath of Allegiance’ to the State. It was while in Adoration, in a cramped attic of a grain loft and after celebrating Mass, that God gave him a vision of a group of men & women who would spread the Love of God throughout the world through devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The order’s most well known and loved member is the ‘leper priest,’ Fr Damien of Molokai. Michael, who hails from north Mayo, is a published poet. Fr Michael has served in various ministries including: parish, vocations, retreats, school and military chaplaincy, Spiritual Direction and as Provincial for the Ireland-England Province of the Order.
The Sacred Heart Church of the parish where Fr Michael now ministers, houses a First Class relic of Saint Damien. The photo shows the Church display: ‘In the Footsteps of Saint Damien,’ that tells the story of the life and vocation of this great Saint, who inspired countless men throughout the world to become priests.
