The Seven Sacraments

Approximately sixteen hundred years ago, Patrick first brought the light of faith to Ireland and as he travelled his pilgrim path, as he made his way from place to place, he marked his pilgrimage around Ireland with halting stones, at the many places where he received divine inspiration or strength for his mission.

As we journey in faith in our lives, as we make our pilgrimage or travel our pilgrim path some sixteen hundred years later, we too need to draw strength and we too need divine inspiration to help us.

There are many sources from which we can draw strength or from where we can be nourished to help us on our pilgrimage in life but for every Christian and every baptised person, the main source of our strength is in and through the Sacraments. In defining a sacrament, someone once said:
"A sacrament is a sacred action in which Christians assemble to celebrate their lived experience calling to mind their common story. The action is a symbol of Gods care for us in Christ. In enacting the symbol, we are brought closer to one another in the Church and to the Lord who is there for us."
